Mastering Adaptability: How to Support High-Level Clients with Communication and Ownership
✂️ Episode 6 [Full episode coming February 18th!]: In this episode of The Delegation Power Series, Jenna Spencer interviews Brittany Alfson, Executive Assistant to Expert EOS Implementer® Jonathan Smith, who shares her insights on adapting to the unique needs of a high-level client. Brittany emphasizes the importance of communication and adaptability in her role. By checking in multiple times a day and adjusting to Jonathan’s communication style, she ensures smooth collaboration.
Key Takeaways:
- Adaptability as an EA: Success lies in adapting to the client’s needs rather than expecting them to adapt to you.
- The Right Questions: Brittany developed a key question, “Is this right now or is this a long-term thing?” to help prioritize tasks effectively.
- Support Mindset: Being an administrative assistant is not about being “less than” the person you support, but about offering unique value and insight.
- Observational Skills: A deep awareness of the client’s activities and objectives is crucial for effective support.
- Continuous Learning: Brittany stresses the importance of constantly seeking knowledge and taking initiative, as this proactive approach enhances her ability to assist.
- Ownership of Mistakes: Trust is built on owning and fixing mistakes, not on avoiding them. It’s about accountability and problem-solving.
- Investing in the Relationship: The first few months of working together require patience and learning from both sides, with a focus on gradually building trust and understanding.
Brittany concludes that supporting a high-level client takes time and mutual investment, where clear communication, adaptability, and a growth mindset lead to long-term success.
